The Burrum Heads Amateur Fishing Club Inc. would like to welcome members and visitors to our idyllic lifestyle situated approximately 30 km north of Hervey Bay along the beautiful Burrum River.

Fishing opportunities at Burrum Heads are only limited by the desires of the angler. You can fish off shore or explore the river systems which feed into the Burrum River catchment such as the Gregory, Isis, and Cherwell Rivers, all offering a diverse bounty of fishing experiences.

The Burrum River is famous for the diversity of both pelagic and bottom feeding fish which inhabit the river system. Bream and huge whiting are in the river all year with flathead, mackerel, cobia, snapper and Jew fish to name just a few are regularly taken from the beach right in front of the town.Australia Day 014

Upstream from Burrum Heads, are a system of mangrove islands surrounded by immense sand and mud flats with an extensive system of gutters running through. Yabbie banks are also prolific here and along with herring and mullet being the preferred bait of the locals when targeting grunter, mangrove jacks, and cod.

Burrum Heads is also the home of the Burrum Heads Easter Fishing Classic which has earnt its reputation as a TOP 5 event on the Fraser Coast and it is hosted by the proud members of the Burrum Heads Amateur Fishing Club Inc. for the last 21 years.

Beautiful Burrum Heads

The Burrum Heads Easter Fishing Classic 2012

Every Easter the Club organises the best family fishing competition. 2012 Burrum Heads Easter Fishing Classic commenced on Good Friday through until Easter Sunday, with a boat & fishing package up for grabs, along with heaps of chocolate wheel icebox raffles, weigh-in prizes for both live and dead fish, great food and drinks.

There was even a bar on Saturday & Sunday for those who preferred an icy-cold ale. You only had to enter the event – you didn’t have to fish to win a prize!
